Summer Vacation Program

At Woodside, we encourage you to apply to our Summer Vacation Program before you graduate. This will enable you to see first-hand what it is like to work at Australia's largest independent oil and gas company prior to graduation.

Our Summer Vacation Program allows students in their second to last year of university to gain an insight into working within an innovative and dynamic multi-disciplined organisation. In our 12 week program (or 4 week program for accounting students), you will be given the opportunity to undertake exciting projects that provide:

  • The chance to be assessed for a position on our Graduate Development Program
  • Valuable and extensive on the job work experience
  • Practical experience to build on your theoretical knowledge
  • The support of a graduate buddy and your supervisor

You will get valuable exposure to real work and a fantastic insight into our culture, plus exposure to our top professionals. There is also the possibility of seeing our operations first-hand through either a placement in Karratha or potential site visit to any of our operations and frequent lunch and learn sessions.

Eligibility

The Woodside Summer Vacation Program is designed for students in their second to last year of university.

You are eligible to apply to our Summer Vacation Program if you are:

  • An Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident.
  • An international student currently studying and residing in Australia with unrestricted Australian working rights over the summer vacation period.
  • In your second to last year of university.
  • Have achieved a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65 or above in your studies to date.

Summer Vacation Program Dates

The 12 week program will commence late November 2019 and finish mid-February 2020. We also offer placements of four weeks for Accounting and Finance students. In the meantime, you can find the perfect role for you: Explore our disciplines and try out our new degree matcher here.

Applications

Applications for the 2019/2020 Summer Vacation Program will open around mid-July 2019.

Application​ Process:

1. Online Application

All applications are to be submitted to our online portal. Applications that are emailed will not be considered. The online application form gives you the opportunity to tell us about yourself. It is important to tell us about the different facets of your experiences to date, so remember to include any work experience, extra-curricular involvement, leadership roles and personal interests, not just your academic achievements.

Make sure you read the questions carefully so you can answer them to the best of your ability, to highlight and demonstrate the skills  you can bring to our organisation.

Lastly, review your application and make sure that you have attached all the documentation that we have requested. This will help us to avoid any delays in carefully evaluating your application. You will need to attach a copy of your current resume, a copy of your current academic transcript/statement of results to date and evidence of your ability to work in Australia for the 12 week period.

2. Online Abilities Test

Once you have submitted your application, you may be invited to progress to the next stage which is an online abilities and safety aptitude test. A link to the test will be emailed to you prior to the applications closing date. 

The test is a mandatory part of our application process and we ask you to complete it within 48 hours of receiving the link. The test typically takes 30-45 minutes, and we suggest you are in a quiet, interruption free environment with WIFI access to complete the test.

Please note that not all applicants will receive an invitation to complete the test.

3. Interview

If you are successful in steps 1-3, a 45 minute face-to-face or video interview will be scheduled for you (depending on your location). This discussion will take place with our business assessors from your nominated discipline preference. The interview will typically include technical questions allowing you to demonstrate knowledge of your discipline, as well as behavioural questions so we can learn more about the experiences you have had to date. We would also encourage you to ask any questions you have about our company or the program you have applied for. Please note that a date and time will be allocated to you to complete this interview and we ask that you make yourselves available.

4. Due Diligence

Our due diligence stage may include, but is not limited to, a national criminal record check, sanctions check, anti-money laundering check, academic record/qualification check and drug and alcohol screen. Our due diligence process can be lengthy and take up to four weeks. As a result we ask candidates that reach this stage of our selection process to keep us updated with any other offers you may receive whilst you are going through our selection process.

5. Offer

If you have been successful in steps one to six, and are selected to be offered a position on our program, a member of our Resourcing Team will contact you to extend a formal offer. At this stage, the Resourcing Adviser will talk through the details of your offer and answer any queries you may have. This will be followed up with a hard copy of your offer and any relevant paperwork.​
