About the Role

 

In this role, you’ll collaborate with peers to advise the business on complex environment matters relating to the Browse development. You’ll play a key part in supporting both primary and secondary environment approvals relating to Browse carbon capture and storage activities, ensuring the project meets regulatory expectations and progresses to plan. You’ll also be involved in the implementation of environmental studies, assurance activities, helping to maintain strong standards, demonstrate compliance and drive continuous improvement across the organisation.

 

This is a 12 month fixed term opportunity, with the potential for extension.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide practical advice on emerging environmental regulations and how they may influence project planning and delivery for Browse carbon capture and storage activities.
  • Facilitate the Browse carbon capture and storage environment approval progress.
  • Update and implement environmental approval strategies that support activities across the project lifecycle — including seismic, drilling, construction, commissioning and decommissioning.
  • Coordinate key baseline and technical studies to inform robust environmental risk and impact assessments.
  • Assess environmental risks across areas such as physical disturbance, emissions, noise, light, discharges and invasive species, ensuring risks are reduced to ALARP.
  • Support regulatory engagement to progress environmental assessments and approvals.
  • Engagement with Browse Joint Venture participants providing updates on project progression.
  • Offer technical input into stakeholder engagement activities and ensure environmental considerations are well‑represented in project deliverables.
  • Deliver environmental awareness sessions to project teams and contractors.
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing insights, lessons learned and supporting integration of enhanced environmental practices.

 

Skills and Experience

 

  • Understanding and experience with Australian environment legislation and application.
  • Ability to support technical environmental studies and communicate progress and findings to the Project team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Managing change initiatives in line with local cultural, social and regulatory conditions.
  • Experience with undertaking audits and inspections and working with data.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering, Risk Management or a relevant degree
  • A perspective and understanding of oil and gas projects, ideally with a knowledge and understanding of Carbon Capture and Storage.
