About the role
This permanent position presents an exceptional opportunity for a corporate attorney to join our legal team based in Houston, supporting Woodside’s operations in the US GOM, Senegal, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Egypt and other locations around the globe.
In this position, reporting to the Managing Counsel, you will be an integral member of the Corporate Legal team providing legal support and guidance on a range of topics including M&A activities across Woodside’s portfolio of opportunities, as well as SEC compliance and corporate disclosure, due diligence, financing, employment, external affairs and government, and energy regulatory matters.
We are interested in hearing from lawyers with experience in one or more of these areas. Experience in all areas is not required.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide commercially-focussed, pragmatic legal advice and assistance to stakeholders and management, including supporting the negotiation and implementation of various commercial arrangements, supporting due diligence activities, assisting with negotiating, drafting and advising on NDAs, and advising on general corporate disclosure obligations.
- Manage external legal counsel.
- Assist in providing structured and ad-hoc legal training across a range of functions and business units.
- Support US-based Board engagement and subsidiary company management.
- Advise on US legislative and regulatory frameworks applying to climate, environment and health & safety matters.
- Work closely with other Legal team members across Woodside’s international business.
Skills and experience
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Currently licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Approximately 4-7 years’ professional legal experience, including law firm and/or in-house counsel experience. Previous in-house experience is not a pre-requisite.
- In depth understanding of the energy industry.
- A positive and enthusiastic attitude to new challenges and opportunities, and a willingness to learn and work within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and judgment.
- Have strong organisational and prioritisation ability.
