About the Role

The Marketing & Trading business is undergoing significant and the continued expansion of trading activities. Reporting to the Head of Accounting and Reporting, this role will lead the accounting strategy for Woodside's evolving Marketing & Trading business, ensuring complex commercial activities are translated into robust accounting outcomes and high-quality external reporting.

role includes responsibility for monthly and year-end close processes, shareholder and listed company reporting, statutory and management reporting, external audit coordination, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in conjunction with the underlying stakeholders.

Operating as a trusted advisor, you will apply sound judgement and influence senior stakeholders across Finance, Marketing, Trading, Shipping, Production and Treasury, providing recommendations that influence Group reporting outcomes and external disclosures. You will ensure reporting is accurate, timely and insightful, while maintaining compliance with Woodside accounting policies, statutory obligations and listed company requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and uplift a team responsible for period-end close activities across marketing, trading, shipping and treasury accounting, setting direction, priorities and standards for delivery.
  • Review marketing, trading and shipping accruals, deferred income, intercompany transactions, onerous contract provisions, open price adjustments and stock in transit for Australia and Marketing assets.
  • Take ownership of group revenue accounting and reporting activities, ensuring outcomes are technically sound, commercially informed and compliant with relevant accounting standards and reporting obligations.
  • Operate as a senior finance leader and trusted adviser to the Head of Accounting and senior stakeholders, providing clear recommendations on complex accounting, reporting, treasury and commercial matters.
  • Oversee treasury accounting activities, including accounting and reporting for financial instruments, derivatives, hedge accounting, hedge valuation activities, debt and US bond accounting, and related financial market activity.
  • Provide strategic accounting advice on new commercial structures, transactions and products, partnering with Marketing & Trading leadership to ensure accounting implications are understood early and reporting frameworks are designed proactively rather than retrospectively.
  • Support monthly trial balance reviews, quarterly ASX reporting, half-yearly LHN reporting and the Annual Report process for the consolidated Group.
  • Design and implement the accounting and control framework supporting the continued evolution of Woodside's Marketing & Trading business, ensuring scalable processes, appropriate governance and high-quality external reporting.
  • Develop organisational capability in trading and treasury accounting, acting as a recognised technical leader for this discipline within Group Finance.
  • Ensure processes are compliant with statutory requirements, SOX, audit obligations, Woodside accounting policies and the Woodside Code of Conduct.

Skills and Experience

You will be comfortable operating in a complex environment, exercising independent judgement on complex accounting and commercial matters, and bringing clarity and prioritisation to team delivery.

 

This role requires someone who can quickly build trust and credibility and operate with an appropriate level of autonomy and judgement.

 

You will have experience in:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, motivating and developing finance professionals.
  • Strong exposure to commodity trading or other complex commodity-exposed environments, treasury, derivatives and hedging, including valuation concepts and the accounting treatment of complex financial instruments.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, deliver key business outcomes and influence decision-making across stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to have impact beyond the immediate team by improving finance processes, strengthening ways of working and contributing to better enterprise-wide Finance outcomes.
  • Ability to establish new accounting processes, frameworks and controls for evolving trading activities, while making sound independent decisions in ambiguous or complex situations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and process improvement capability, with high attention to detail.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA or equivalent.
