About the Role:
Reporting to the Global Marine Assurance Manager, the Marine Assurance Specialist provides global vetting and assurance for tankers and offshore vessels to support Woodside Energy value streams.
This position is based in Perth office; you are responsible for ensuring a full suite of marine assurance processes are documented for all vessel types.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- HSEQ Leadership: Champion marine safety leadership in alignment with Woodside’s Safety Culture. Drive continuous improvement in HSEQ outcomes, processes, and practices, ensuring marine safety is integral to all vessel contracting opportunities.
- Compliance & Assurance: Stay abreast of international, national, and state marine legislation, advising on changes to maintain Woodside Energy’s compliance. Conduct assurance activities for all marine vessels engaged in Woodside Energy work and/or charter.
- Leadership & Development: Exhibit exemplary marine leadership, supporting the performance and development of Marine personnel. Contribute to the Woodside Energy Marine Community of Practice and make informed safety leadership decisions.
- Technical & Commercial Expertise: Document and oversee marine assurance processes for all vessel types. Provide expert advice and support to Internal Stakeholders.
- Responsible for conducting contractor audits based on Woodside Marine Assurance processes and/or industry best practices.
- Ensure appropriate marine SME input into all marine accidents and investigations, risk analysis and integrity of incident report findings.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of marine regulations, including but not limited to International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, Marine Orders and Department of Transport directives.
- SME for marine legislation advice and provide SME technical guidance to the Woodside Energy for problem solving uncommon marine technical issues.
Skills & Experience:
- A strategic thinker with a global perspective and a minimum of 10 years of seagoing experience on LNG/ LPG vessels (preferred).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead significant scopes of work autonomously.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly with senior management, and the courage to address conflicts between commercial, operational, and safety/compliance requirements.
- A well-established international industry network and demonstrated experience in ship vetting and assurance activities.
- Demonstrated experience in ship vetting and assurance activities – with expert knowledge and understanding of Marine Legislation, International Maritime Conventions, codes and standards.
- Current or past qualification as Senior Marine Deck Officer (Master/Chief Officer) or Senior Engineering Officer (Chief Engineer or 1st Engineer) as per STCW qualifications.
