About the Role
The Business Development Advisor (Commercial) plays a crucial role in driving the growth and expansion of the company’s oil and gas portfolio. This position involves supporting the Senior Business Development managers in identifying new business opportunities, fostering strategic partnerships, and providing expert advice on market trends and investment strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Opportunity identification: Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, including joint ventures, strategic alliances/partnerships, and potential acquisitions (in conjunction with the M&A Team).
- Strategic planning: Develop and implement business development strategies that align with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
- Partnership development: Originate, build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including industry partners, national energy companies, and potential LNG customers.
- Leading opportunities: Leading virtual teams of SMEs in the origination and maturation of specific projects or initiatives.
- Value and risk: Strong understanding of value and risk allocation in developing deal structures.
- Market analysis: Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, potential opportunities, and competitive dynamics within the oil and gas industry.
- Proposal development: Prepare detailed business proposals, presentations, and reports to support decision-making processes.
- Framing deal structure: originate, develop, negotiate and execute (alongside relevant SMEs) commercial structures for new and existing projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and market conditions.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including commercial, engineering, legal, tax and finance, to ensure seamless execution of business development initiatives.
- Performance monitoring: Track and report on the progress of business development activities.
- Mobility: External engagement will be with counterparts across the globe and therefore ability to travel will be a key part of the role.
Skills and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with a focus on business development activities.
- Skills: Business development mindset with a focus on generating returns, strong analytical, negotiation, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the oil, gas and LNG industry, including market dynamics, regulatory environment, and emerging trends, and how value and risk is allocated.
- Network: Existing strong industry network and ability to grow network quickly.
- Agreements and negotiation: experience with industry / commercial agreements (incl. AIEN/AIPN).
- Self-starter and strategic thinker: with a proactive approach to identifying and capitalising on business opportunities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with dynamic work environments: Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, ever-changing work settings. Demonstrated success in adapting to shifting priorities, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and delivering high-quality results under pressure.
- Leadership: Proven leadership abilities with experience in leading and mentoring diverse teams. Ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve high performance in a global context.
- International experience: Demonstrated ability to navigate diverse cultural, regulatory, and business environments to achieve strategic objectives.
- Language: International language skills preferred.
