About the Role

 

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Second Engineer plays a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of the Ngujima-Yin/Okha FPSO. You will take ownership of the vessel's main engine, propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, steering gear, hotel services, and cargo management systems — ensuring they perform reliably and to the highest standards.

 

A key part of this role is maintaining the vessel's classification and statutory certifications, upholding ISM Code compliance, and managing the associated administrative requirements. You will work as a core member of the engineering team, contributing to a strong safety culture and operational excellence.

 

When required, you may also serve as Acting Chief Engineer during disconnected mode operations, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced Second Engineer ready to take the next step in their career.

 

This is a FIFO position, with roster arrangements discussed during the pre-selection process.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Operations & Systems Management Take operational ownership of the vessel's main engine, propulsion, auxiliary systems, steering gear, hotel services, and cargo management systems, ensuring safe and reliable performance at all times. You will also operate equipment across oil and gas processing, utilities, and safety systems.
  • Maintenance Planning & Execution Lead and coordinate maintenance activities from planning through to completion, working hands-on alongside the engineering team. Accurately record and report all maintenance activities within management systems, including SAP PM, to ensure full traceability and compliance.
  • Certification & Compliance Maintain all classification and statutory certifications associated with engineering systems onboard, ensuring ongoing compliance with ISM Code requirements and managing the related administrative obligations.
  • Acting Chief Engineer When required, step up to cover the Chief Engineer role during disconnected mode operations — a valuable opportunity to demonstrate leadership and readiness for the next level of your career.

Skills and Experience

 

  • Class 1 Motor Certificate of Competency with Oil Tanker Endorsement
  • Experience as a Chief Engineer on oil/gas tankers or FPSOs is highly regarded, though not essential
  • Strong team coordination, facilitation, and people management skills
  • Proficient in HSE Safety Case frameworks and safety management systems
  • Confident in Emergency Response as a Tanker Officer
  • Experienced in activity planning, maintenance management, and integrity management
  • Comfortable working effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
  • A positive influence on those around you, with a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
