About the Role:
You will work as a member of a vibrant and diverse multidisciplinary Global Wells & Seismic Subsurface internal-service team that delivers geohazards, pore-pressure, geotechnical engineering, geomechanics and operations geology. Projects will span Woodside Energy’s Australian Projects, Exploration, Development, Production, Decommissioning and Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Sequestration portfolios.
You will complete geohazard assessments that identifies and communicates the subsurface risk and uncertainty associated with both natural geological and synthetic features related to well site selection, design, permitting, drilling, completions, and abandonment of exploration, appraisal and development wells for the commercial exploitation of oil, gas and low-carbon products (e.g., CO2 injection).
You will formally recommend, and informally influence, the full well lifecycle; from well planning and the Basis for Well Design & Abandonment (BfWD&A), to well operations and post-operational analysis that culminates with lessons learnt. You will enjoy well established and regionally specific flexible work options.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the accurate prognoses of subsurface geohazards through the advanced integration of geological, geophysical, petrophysical, production, and geomechanical data.
- Responsible for subsurface characterisation of geohazards pertaining to full well lifecycle management principally delivered through the BfWD&A process.
- Multidisciplinary intra-team collaboration of geohazards, pore pressure and fracture gradient, and geomechanics to deliver technically complex integrated results to inter-team customers.
- Collaborate with GWS Drilling & Completion, Well Focal Point and/or the Asset Well Planning Team to deliver optimal and timely technical inputs for the phased delivery of project work.
- Support geohazard detection based on analysis of real-time drilling, logging, and geological indicators.
- Science communication to the drilling team, leadership, partners, and government.
- Technical coaching and contributing to formal training for capability development.
- Support well operations; occasionally travel; influence standards; and contribute to geohazards technical guidelines.
Skills & Experience:
- Geology, geophysics, geomechanics and/or engineering MSc and/or PhD qualification/s.
- 10+ years’ industry experience in subsurface engineering or geoscience.
- 5+ years’ experience with geohazard assessment for drilling in industrial applications as operator.
- Expert in seismic interpretation for the management, viewing, and analysis of well and seismic data.
- Expert communicator of complex science through influential presentations of results and uncertainties.
- Motivated to collaborate within an integrated team and with customers to improve individual and team service delivery.
- An adjacent skill including pore-pressure, geomechanics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering or geophysics.
