About the Role:

We are seeking a Tax Advisor to support Woodside’s Mexico operations on direct and indirect tax matters. This role is responsible for Mexican tax compliance, tax accounting and reporting, practical tax advice, risk management and coordination with Mexico tax resources, the global tax team and external advisers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Mexican Tax Compliance and Statutory Reporting
•    Prepare and file all required Mexican tax returns, including monthly and annual income tax, VAT, withholding tax and other statutory filings, in compliance with applicable Mexican tax regulations.
•    Coordinate with external advisers on the preparation of transfer pricing documentation and support related compliance requirements for intercompany transactions, ensuring alignment with Mexican rules, OECD standards, SIPRED requirements and applicable reporting obligations.
•    Coordinate timely tax payments and maintain complete workpapers supporting tax positions and filings.
•    Coordinate, prepare and seek recovery of VAT refund claims with the SAT, including responses to information requests and supporting documentation to ensure submissions are accurate, timely and appropriately supported.

Tax Accounting, Reporting and Provision Support
•    Support half-year and year-end closing activities related to tax accounting, provisions and IFRS reporting, including taxable income calculations, deferred tax roll forwards, effective tax rate analyses and uncertain tax positions in accordance with internal timelines and governance requirements.
•    Prepare half-year and year-end tax reporting, disclosures and external audit support.
•    Ensure tax reporting is consistent with local statutory obligations and Woodside governance expectations.


Business Partnering and Commercial Tax Advisory
•    Provide practical day-to-day advice on Mexican income tax, VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing, CFDI, electronic invoicing requirements, hydrocarbon taxation and related fiscal obligations.
•    Advise and support commercial, legal, procurement, treasury, accounting and operations teams on current activities, contract review and new business initiatives.
•    Work with our partner, PEMEX, on tax-sensitive matters, ensuring tax positions, information requests and external communications are coordinated appropriately with internal stakeholders and advisers.
•    Research, track and interpret changes in Mexican tax law, hydrocarbon taxation, the Hydrocarbons Revenue Law and relevant SENER fiscal guidelines, applying fiscal updates to company operations as needed and providing clear recommendations that balance compliance, risk management and business objectives.
•    Apply appropriate Mexican tax treatment to capital expenditures, exploration costs, cost recovery, non-deductible items and related project expenditures in support of accurate compliance, reporting and business decision-making.
•    Support growth projects, restructurings, and M&A activities where Mexico tax input is required.


Tax Governance, Risk Management and Stakeholder Engagement
•    Identify tax risks and recommend mitigation actions for new tax laws and regulatory requirements.
•    Coordinate responses to SAT audits and tax authority reviews, supporting external advisers, auditors and regulatory authorities while maintaining effective tax controls and complete support for positions taken.
•    Support tax transparency, advocacy and process improvement initiatives.
•    Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external tax advisers, SAT, external auditors, PEMEX and partner with relevant industry groups.

Skills & Experience:

Required Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Law or a related discipline.
•    Minimum six years of tax advisory and compliance experience in a multinational corporation, accounting firm, law firm or combination thereof.
•    Experience with Mexican corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing and tax accounting.
•    Experience preparing IFRS tax provisions, reporting packages, reconciliations and tax workpapers.
•    Experience managing tax authority interactions, information requests and refund claims.
•    Strong Microsoft Excel skills and ability to use tax reporting systems effectively.
•    Fluency in English and Spanish.


Preferred Experience
•    CPA, CA, Master’s in Tax or equivalent qualification.
•    Experience with cross-border transactions and international operations.
•    Experience with M&A, restructurings, business development or new business initiatives.
•    Oil and gas experience, including exposure to upstream or capital-intensive environments.
•    Experience with SAP (or comparable ERP), OneSource and tax reporting systems.

Proficiency in English is preferred
