About the Role:

The Community affairs specialist position reports to the Corporate Affairs Director in Mexico. The role is essential for providing expert community and stakeholder engagement advice by interacting directly with the key communities and local stakeholders of the region where Trion will have operations.

We are seeking a candidate who has at least 2-5 years of experience in a similar community role. Relevant experience in a similar engagement environment would be advantageous. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, must be able to facilitate information and deliver effective messages with community members and proactively engage with local stakeholders in a complex and changing environment.

The Community affairs specialist is a role that might require flexibility and availability to work outside work hours, this position will be in the first line of response for the company in all community matters.

The candidate must be able to operate in a performance driven environment and within a matrix organization and shall have a good understanding of cultural diversity. The candidate shall have successfully worked with executives. Equally, the candidate shall be able to demonstrate the ability to efficiently collaborate with the team and contribute to the team culture based on trust, respect, teamwork while focusing on achieving performance excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Corporate Affairs Mexico team to strategically engage with stakeholders and the community
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with local governmental stakeholders and their offices, and manage Woodside’s day-to-day engagement
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key community and external stakeholders in the region
  • Provide strategic communications and reputation advice within community matters
  • Identify and mitigate stakeholder, community complaints
  • Coordinate quarterly engagements, site visits and events, ensuring all internal requirements are met
  • Create diverse communication materials, such as notifications, newsletters, advertising, social media posts, and formal correspondence to comply with the approved Social Impact Management Plan
  • Manage responses to all community-related communication matters through phone, email, website, and social media
  • Develop project-specific forums for stakeholders and the community, including community forums and pop-up information sessions
  • Maintain meticulous records of community and stakeholder activities
  • Draft and prepare all required reports that should be filed to the Ministry of Energy in terms of Social Impact responsibilities
  • Identify and manage potential partnership and alliances opportunities to deliver social investment projects

Skills & Experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience in communications and stakeholder relations roles, particularly within the oil and gas industry
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, enabling effective communication at all levels
  • A Bachelor level or certificate degree in social sciences, political, law or economics, or relevant experience in disciplines like public relations, stakeholder management, community development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience providing communications advice in complex and evolving environments
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing strategic social investment and stakeholder engagement strategy’s
  • Experience working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • A proactive, goal orientated performance mindset with the initiative to influence positively
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems unassisted
  • High-level interpersonal skills, which include the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the project’s team.
  • Experience in working in a multi-functional/project environment would be desirable.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office – Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • English - Spanish bilingual.
