About the Role:

The Surface Engineering Manager Gulf of Mexico is responsible for overseeing surface engineering activities, managing the engineering team, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of offshore systems and structures. This role involves coordinating with various teams within International Operations, maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and driving continuous improvement in operational efficiency and safety standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with the operations teams including OIMs and Operations Managers.
  • Use multi source information with sound judgement to direct and guide the surface engineering team in alignment with business asset strategy.
  • Develop and manage the surface engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of resources.
  • Contract owner for critical support services to ensure the safe, cost effective and reliable production

Technical Oversight and Productivity

  • Ensure the continued integrity and operational reliability of offshore platforms and facilities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team as well as the operations teams in the office and offshore.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and efficient project delivery

Duties and Responsibilities Cont.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with local, national, and international regulations and standards, including safety and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary documentation and reports for regulatory compliance.
  • Periodic interface with local Regulator regarding annual inspection programs and specific issues that arise as needed to maintain the License to Operate

Safety and Risk Management

  • Accountable for the overall assurance of equipment critical controls to ensure functionality and availability; execution of monthly health checks and annual reporting
  • Stewards surface engineering team to maintain critical controls against identified Material Risks
  • Ensure risk assessments and mitigation strategies are developed for engineering projects and operations to support overall risk management through; HAZOP, HAZID and other processes. 
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures to minimize risk and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct field leadership assessments of offshore systems and process to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Embed process safety management framework into the engineering team.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices, processes, and technologies.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices, and implement relevant changes to improve facility performance.
  • Implement digital and technology improvements to drive better safety, reliability and efficiency outcomes.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or quality.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, regulatory bodies, and clients.
  • Prepare and present engineering reports, updates, and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.

Skills & Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline. (Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related field)
  • Minimum of 15 years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years in a direct / indirect leadership role managing offshore projects or facilities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated good judgement when approaching complex business and personal issues
  • Demonstrates high levels of autonomy and business acumen as well as understands the complex relationship between business and safety risk management
  • In-depth knowledge of offshore oil and gas engineering principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging offshore environments.
  • Combination of Operations and Project experience is preferred
