About the Role

Woodside’s Exploration and new ventures team is looking for a senior petrophysicist to support its activities.  The position is within the Discovered Resource Opportunities (DRO) team – DRO activities require the petrophysicist to have the ability to provide fit-for-purpose evaluations of wireline, LWD and core analysis data within short timeframes.  In addition, other work scopes will include performing regional studies, often with a very wide range of data types and vintages, a key component of which is supporting QI studies by providing QC’d log data sets.  Some international travel may be required.

While this position reports into the Head of DRO, a significant part of the role includes supporting other teams within the wider Exploration organization as a shared resource.  The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in Peer Reviews and Assists, as well as providing mentoring and coaching to less-experienced staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct fit-for-purpose evaluations of wireline, LWD, and core analysis data within short timeframes.
  • Perform regional studies with diverse data types and vintages.
  • Support Quantitative Interpretation (QI) studies by providing QC’d log data sets.
  • Act as a shared resource, supporting various teams within the Exploration organization.
  • Participate in Peer Reviews and Assists to ensure high-quality evaluations and analyses.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline geoscience and reservoir engineering teams to provide calibrated petrophysical input to static and dynamic reservoir models.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to less-experienced staff to enhance their technical skills and professional growth.
  • Share knowledge and best practices within the team and across the organization.
  • Utilize advanced logging technology, including wireline formation testing and sampling, NMR, and capture spectroscopy.
  • Stay updated with the latest technological advancements and apply them to improve data evaluation and analysis processes.
  • Be prepared to travel internationally as required to support exploration and new ventures activities.
  • Report to the Head of Discovered Resource Opportunities (DRO) and provide regular updates on project progress and findings.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders, both orally and in writing.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will be a senior petrophysicist with extensive technical knowledge and experience working on conventional clastic and carbonate reservoirs in many basins across the world. Ideal qualifications, skills and experience include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Petrophysics, Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, or Physics or Foreign equivalent
  • Professional experience (in years): 10+ years of experience working as a petrophysicist for an operator and/or a major service company
  • Experience with multi-mineral solver analysis in conventional clastic and carbonate reservoirs
  • Experience with advanced logging technology including wireline formation testing and sampling, NMR and capture spectroscopy.  Familiarity with borehole image interpretation is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of core analysis methods and core data evaluation, particularly generation of saturation/height models
  • Experience working with multi-discipline geoscience and reservoir engineering teams to provide calibrated petrophysical input to static and dynamic reservoir models
  • Knowledge of Techlog software is a plus.  Familiarity with other software (IP, Geolog etc) is also beneficial
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
