About the Role:

 

An exciting opportunity has become available for a driven and proficient Principal Developer experienced in data science, platforms and technology. This role will be a technical lead that is responsible for the implementation, enhancement and operation of data science tools, both commercial and custom built, used by data scientists and analysts across Woodside. Reporting to the Data Science Lead, you will play a key role in designing, developing and implementing data science platforms solutions that address key business challenges and create new opportunities within Woodside.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee technical development and operations of data science tools and platforms.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the data science lead and team to understand project requirements and ensure existing platforms can support delivered project artefacts.
  • Maintain existing data science tools and platforms in a secure cloud environment collaborating with other platform teams (data technology, digital/IT operational model).
  • Provide continuous support and improvements for existing data science products and manage their lifecycle (usage and performance monitoring, upgrades of frameworks).
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders on best practices in data science, ML and AI operations from technical implementation and architecture perspective.
  • Apply strong leadership skills and foster a collaborative environment.

 

Skills & Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python (additionally R, .Net, node.js) programming languages and Python libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn), comfortable with and deep knowledge of Linux and Windows operating system environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud environments (AWS as main cloud deployment, Azure for some services) – solution architecture, container orchestration (e.g. AWS ECS, EKS, k8s, microk8s).
  • Excellent understanding of security requirements for data management and data science and implementation (authentication and authorisation).
  • Proven experience leading technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrable understanding of data science workflows and methodologies (e.g. MLflow, Kubeflow, AWS SageMaker).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Previous experience with machine learning or relevant advanced analytics.
  • Familiarity with data science technologies and tools.
  • Proven experience in developing and deploying AI/ML solutions, with a focus on automation and agent-based workflows.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, algorithms, and techniques, including natural language processing, and computer vision,
  • Experience working with cloud-based AI/ML platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with API development and integration.
