About the Role:

The Australian Operations Safety & Integrity team aspires to enable safe and sustainable delivery of our projects and operations and empower our teams to achieve positive HSE outcomes. We foster strong relationships with our contract partners and frontline teams  to grow HSE leadership and capability through coaching, spending time in-field and actively seeking feedback to gain valuable insights into our performance and emerging risks.

Our team plays a critical role in driving strategic HSE initiatives and maintaining high-level safety performance across our diverse offshore assets and projects.

As a Senior Health & Safety Adviser, you will take on a leadership role in overseeing and enhancing the safety culture and HSE processes across our offshore Australian Operations. Reporting to the Safety and Integrity Lead - Offshore, you will lead key initiatives to improve safety outcomes, understand risk, and influence safety standards across multiple assets and projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead HSE strategy and execution in a complex operational environment, with ad hoc travel offshore.

Duties & Responsibilities:

HSE Service Delivery

  • Lead the development and implementation of safety management systems and processes across multiple projects and sites.
  • Provide strategic guidance on process safety risks and ensure comprehensive compliance with regulatory and company-specific safety standards.
  • Oversee and coordinate contractor safety compliance, driving continuous improvement and ensuring alignment with Woodside’s HSE management systems.
  • Lead the investigation of high-impact safety events, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with leadership and field teams.
  • Deliver and review high-level HSE performance reports and trends, providing insight to senior management for decision-making.
  • Influence the strategic development of HSE initiatives and lead the implementation of continuous improvement strategies across operations.

Leadership 

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a diverse team of HSE professionals to foster a high-performance safety culture aligned with Woodside’s values and safety vision.
  • Take a proactive leadership role in contractor safety management, ensuring that contractors meet the necessary safety standards and align with project goals.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in shaping Woodside’s HSE culture, promoting the Human Organisational Performance (HOP) principles, Process Safety Framework, Golden Safety Rules and Woodside Values.
  • Build a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace. Creating a space where everyone feels they belong, can be themselves, and are heard.
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior management on complex safety matters and drive the adoption of best practices across all operational teams.
  • Lead and facilitate HSE governance meetings, training programs, and the sharing of HSE knowledge across teams.

Skills & Experience:

  • Diploma or higher in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in HSE advisory or management roles, with a deep understanding of WA Health and Safety legislation and the Safety Case regime.
  • Proven experience in leading safety initiatives at an operational or multi-project level, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis expertise (I-Cam, Tap Root training highly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop HSE teams, fostering leadership and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

Advantageous

  • Previous experience with large-scale contractor workforces and managing multiple stakeholders across diverse projects.
  • Health and hygiene or previous trade or High-Risk Work background
  • Expertise in process safety and trade-based experience is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in commissioning start-up and leading high-level safety assessments during complex operational phases.
