About the Role:

Located in Houston, Texas this position applies engineering and technical expertise to develop New Energy end to end system technoeconomic modelling to evaluate and optimize business opportunities and operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and continuous improvement of technically sound code-based engineering design tools for hydrogen and ammonia production systems which includes cost of supply and carbon intensity optimization of:

    • Facility supply and offtake networks,

    • Power and facility design configuration,

    • Operations phase production.

  • Responsible for the plant simulation lifetime economic calculations and technical constraints that underpin simulation results fidelity.

  • Applies technoeconomic tools to evaluate identified power, hydrogen, and ammonia business opportunities.

  • Effectively communicates modelling results with internal stakeholders through data visualizations.  

  • Collaborates with business to solve power and production system technical and engineering challenges.

  • Builds and maintains code-based tools using coding best practices within a sustainable Woodside repository and simulation platform.

  • Routinely shares knowledge, insights, best practices, and lessons learnt.

Skills & Experience:

The successful applicant for this role will have:

  • Chemical or Electrical Engineering - advanced degree preferred.

  • 3+ years of code development of complex simulations and optimization models in either industrial or manufacturing applications (Python preferred).

  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or research organization in an applied engineering / technical role including experience working with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to deliver innovative & competitively advantaged simulation & optimization technology in an emerging energy sector with no analogs.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and leverage technical and engineering skills, business acumen, and subject matter experts to solve technoeconomic problems.

  • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders and subject matter experts in the fields of operations research, optimization, advanced plant controls, and machine learning.

  • Ability to effectively communicate model and simulation results to both internal and external stakeholders to influence business decisions.

  • Ability to coordinate third party technical scopes and ensure that projects stay on schedule.

  • Technical knowledge of utility/renewable power systems and hydrogen production processes.
